Digestive Support:

While it is true that a dog’s body produces digestive enzymes, additional enzymes in the diet contribute to digestion and absorption and may enhance food efficiency.  Improper levels of enzymes may result in gas, diarrhea, constipation, excessive shedding and inability to gain weight despite a big appetite.

Enzymes produced by the pancreas are essential for digestion of nutrients in food.  As dogs age, the pancreas slows enzyme production, resulting in reduced digestion and assimilation of fat, protein and carbohydrate components of food.  Processing and cooking of food reduces or eliminates dietary enzymes.  Certain breeds, such as Boston Terriers, may not have enough digestive enzymes for optimal nutrient digestion and absorption.

Enzyme supplementation can increase the absorption of essential vitamins, minerals and certain fatty acids from the diet.  Increased absorption of zinc, selenium, vitamin B6 and linoleic acid has been detected following supplementation with plant enzymes.  Enzyme supplementation may also correct bad breath, grass eating, stool eating and gas.

When to use:

    • Stool eating (copraphagia)
    • Excessive gas
